During measurement, the circuit unit generates an electric current pulse, which is transmitted downwards along the guide-wave wire and generates a current magnetic field. When the liquid level changes, the float moves up and down along the probe rod. There is permanent magnet inside the float, so the float also creates a magnetic field. When the current magnetic field comes across the float\u2019s magnetic field, a torsional wave is generated and transferred upwards to the circuit unit along the guide-wave wire.
