What is a Wedge Flowmeter

A wedge flowmeter is an instrument that uses a wedge to measure the flow of a fluid. It is widely used in flow measurement in petrochemical, metallurgy, water conservancy, environmental protection and other fields. Hongguang instrument will introduce the relevant knowledge of wedge flowmeter in detail from the principle, structure, advantages and disadvantages of wedge flowmeter.

What is a Wedge Flowmeter

1. The principle of wedge flowmeter
The principle of the wedge flowmeter is to use the fluid to form a pressure drop before and after the wedge, so as to realize the measurement of the flow. The wedge is usually made of metal or ceramic material, its shape is triangular or trapezoidal, and the angle of the wedge is usually 60° or 45°.
When the fluid passes through the wedge, a pressure difference is formed due to the different pressures before and after the wedge, and the flow rate can be calculated by measuring the value of the pressure difference. Wedge meters are usually equipped with a pressure sensor or differential pressure transmitter to measure the pressure difference across the wedge.

2. The structure of wedge flowmeter
Wedge flowmeter is mainly composed of wedge body, fluid inlet and outlet, pressure sensor or differential pressure transmitter and display instrument. The wedge is usually made of metal or ceramic material, its shape is triangular or trapezoidal, and the angle of the wedge is usually 60° or 45°.
The fluid inlet and outlet are located at both ends of the wedge, and are connected with the measured medium through the inlet and outlet. Pressure transducers or differential pressure transmitters are usually installed before and after the wedge to measure the pressure difference across the wedge. Display instruments are usually used to display parameters such as flow rate or flow rate.

3. Advantages and disadvantages of wedge flowmeter
Wedge flow meters have the following advantages:
(1) Wide measurement range. Wedge flow meters can measure a variety of media, including gases, liquids, steam, etc.
(2)High measurement accuracy. The wedge flowmeter adopts the differential pressure measurement method and has high measurement accuracy.
(3)Simple structure. Wedge flowmeter is simple in structure, easy to install and maintain.
(4) Strong applicability. Wedge flowmeters are suitable for different flow ranges and working conditions.

Disadvantages of wedge flow meters include:
(1)High requirements on fluid. The wedge flowmeter has certain requirements on the parameters such as the viscosity and flow velocity of the fluid, and is not suitable for some special media.
(2)High requirements for installation location. The measurement accuracy of the wedge flowmeter is affected by the installation location, so it is necessary to choose a suitable installation location.
(3)Susceptible to the interference of impurities in the fluid. Wedge flow meters are susceptible to interference from impurities in the fluid, so attention needs to be paid to maintenance and cleaning.

4. Application of wedge flowmeter
Wedge flowmeters are widely used in flow measurement in petrochemical, metallurgy, water conservancy, environmental protection and other fields. It can measure a variety of media, including gas, liquid, steam, etc. Wedge flowmeters are suitable for different flow ranges and working conditions, and have high measurement accuracy.
In the petrochemical field, wedge flowmeters are usually used to measure the flow of oil, natural gas, petrochemical products, etc. In the field of water conservancy, wedge flow meters are usually used to measure parameters such as water flow and water level. In the field of environmental protection, wedge flow meters are usually used to measure the flow of waste water and waste gas, etc.

Hongguang instrument wedge flowmeter has the advantages of wide measurement range, high measurement accuracy, simple structure and strong applicability, and is widely used in flow measurement in various fields.
